Vampires and Jobs

Ok… weird title, I know. LOL!!

I got a call yesterday while I was at work. Hubby took the message. It was from someone who had lunch with my dad (they both work in staffing at different companies). Anyway, she saw my resume and wanted to talk to me. She works for a a big company. I love my job right now but I would be a fool not to see what she has to say so I will try and find time to touch base with her. I did email her though because I’m not sure if I will be able to find a time during the day to reach her. Can be difficult.

I have a new obsession. You know (if you’ve been reading me for any length of time) that I absolutely love vampire romance novels. I cannot get enough of them. I’ve pretty much been stuck on Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series and Mary Janice Davidson’s Queen Betsy series. The Dark Hunters are just yummy and I love how Kenyon ties them in with mythology. Awesome! And the Queen Betsy books are just so hilarious. I love those characters!!!

But now, I have finally gotten into reading Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire series. I am half way through Dead Until Dark and am totally obsessed with that book!!! I wanted to make sure I read at least the first book before the new HBO True Blood series starts… which is based off these books if you don’t already know. OMG I cannot wait!!!!!!

First week down

I know I am talking about work in almost every post right now but honestly, I love this job. It has its moments like any other job but you have to understand… to go from a job that made me so absolutely miserable that it literally made me sick to walk in the door each day… to a job where I actually love being there and have no problem working through breaks or staying late… it is a HUGE deal!

And that is what I did today. I worked through my lunch break and my 15 minute breaks. I just had a lot to do and I wanted it done. Besides, I spend most of the day sitting so what is there to take a break from, you know? I can have a snack, drink or whatever at my station and I listen to my ipod. Who needs a break from that? LOL

Yesterday was a rough day but today was great. I pretty much worked on my own without any trouble. Just had a couple of questions to ask but that was it.

The supervisor came over and asked what I thought about the job now that I’ve been there for a week. I told her I really liked it. She’s going to be training me on more clients next week. Oooh boy. LOL! That’s ok though. I’ve been doing some work for other clients already anyway. Not too worried about it.

I talked to a friend that I worked with at the old crappy job. She had another job interview yesterday and it looks like she has the job in the bag. She should have the offer on Monday. Once she has it, she is walking into Crappy Workplace and turning in her badge. She said it is only getting worse since the time I left. So she is the latest one to walk out the door there. And I can guarantee you, she won’t be the last. What is sad, is that Crappy Bosses will never learn from this. They’ll just go out and hire more people… and lie to them too. Then they’ll quit and the process will start again.

I’m just glad I have a better job. It may not pay as much but at least I’m happy. When I came home today from work, I was in the best mood. The traffic was a mess and I was tired… and hungry because I hadn’t eaten all day… but I was happy. That is a wonderful thing.

Ugh what a day!

Very, very busy at work today. I have two clients I do work for. One is pretty easy most of the time. The other is complicated on a good day. Today was just horrendous. Gave me quite the headache. And frankly, I wasn’t sure I was ever going to get done. Was just so much work. But I finally finished and only worked an extra five minutes past quitting time. Whew!

I’m trying to decide what to do with my wedding rings. The are too small. I would prefer to lose weight and have them fit again but I’ve been preferring this forever now and it hasn’t happened yet. So, should I break down and have them sized up? My biggest concern is weakening the band if I end up having to have them sized back down in the future. I don’t know what to do. I hate not being able to wear them though.

You have to love a job where you can sit and listen to your ipod all day long while you’re working.

Update on first day

Well, it was a pretty good day for the most part. Only thing that made it bad was this vicious headache that I have. I almost asked if I could leave early because the headache was making me so sick that I felt like I was going to throw up for about the last 45 minutes. But I suffered through it.

Nice thing is that time flies because you’re busy the whole time. Mondays are apparently the busiest day.

I’m not quite sure how to describe what I do… first thing is I grab all the mail that is from my client that I work on. I sort it all, open all the envelopes, sort the paperwork, then I take it over to be scanned. When that’s done, I take it to the computer and index all the pages. I enter in some info off the paperwork and stuff.

I got to learn how to use the scanner (this huge monster machine) but I probably won’t be doing much scanning usually. Too bad… I enjoyed that.

One thing I like is the flexibility. You can take your breaks whenever you want. It is a half hour lunch but if you want, you can take an hour… you just have to stay an extra half hour past your normal quitting time to make up for it. That is pretty darn cool!!

Monday

First day at new job. Complete nervous wreck. That is all.

Happy Saturday

Today is my Kiddo’s 11th birthday. She’s a happy girl today. We aren’t doing much today really. She wanted to go to Steak N Shake for lunch and then we will have cake and ice cream when we get home. She’s inviting a friend and her grandpa and grandma are coming too. Will be nice.

Last night we went to see Dark Knight. I’m not really much of a Batman fan at all but the effects were pretty good. Was definitely worth seeing.

I was sort of wanting to see The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor but from all the reviews I have read, it is one crappy movie so I won’t waste my money.

Just don’t even go there

Tonight was one bad night. It was like one thing went wrong after the next.

It all started with some personal issues of Kiddo’s. Nothing I want to share here… but it lead to her throwing a tantrum because I wanted her to take a bath. *sigh*

While all of that was going on, I realized that no one has bothered to empty the dirty water tank on the Little Green carpet cleaner. People use it and never empty it. Well, this must have been full for awhile because when I removed the dirty tank, it smelled so bad I almost puked! Then the damn thing spilled all over when I was taking it to the sink. Unbelievable. So I was busting my butt to clean it all up and clean the floor really well.

As I was dumping the remainder of the nasty water down the sink, I noticed that the left side of the double sink was clogged. Great! It is after 10pm and I have no clog remover stuff. I sent husband to get some. Took me three freakin’ tries to get that drain unclogged. UGH! I’m just glad it finally cleared out. I wouldn’t have been happy if I had to call someone.

Only bright thing of the day is that Oldest had a job interview. She said it went well and will know tomorrow if she got the job. I hope she gets it. She really liked the place too so that is a great thing.
